Introducing: 3sixteen denim

We're proud to introduce 3sixteen denim to our shop.  The partners behind 3sixteen denim spent a long time wearing many different brands of jeans and then incorporating what they feel are the best characteristics into their denim.  3sixteen denim is constructed of 14 oz. Kaihara Japanese indigo selvedge sanforized denim cut and sewn in the USA.  They chose to have their denim constructed in the USA in order to keep close tabs on the quality.  Additionally since denim is traditionally considered a staple in American workwear it only seemed right to have it constructed by hand in the USA.  Features include chainstitched hem, custom hardware and rivets as well as leather patches made by Tanner Goods in Portland, Oregon.

We are offering 2 fits:  the SL-100x, which is considered by many to be the perfect straight leg and the ST-100x which is the slim tapered fit both in a beautiful dry raw.

Both fits will be retailing at:   $195

There is a difference

In the shop we get the question all the time: why is this "X" amount of dollars. Since 1997 we have specialized in premium brands not luxury/designer brands. Our brands have had and will always have value associated with them because of the materials or fabrics used as well as the type of and country of manufacturing. We can spend hours explaining why a jean costs $200 in our shop, because we care how it's made, who is making it and why they're making it. Below my brother found this brief article and I think it explains it well. Enjoy!!

LUXURY VS. PREMIUM

Luxury goods are needlessly expensive. By needlessly, I mean that the price is not related to performance. The price is related to scarcity, brand and storytelling. Luxury goods are organized waste. They say, "I can afford to spend money without regard for intrinsic value."

That doesn't mean they are senseless expenditures. Sending a signal is valuable if that signal is important to you.

Premium goods, on the other hand, are expensive variants of commodity goods. Pay more, get more. Figure skates made from kangaroo hide, for example, are premium. The spectators don't know what they're made out of, but some skaters believe they get better performance. They're happy to pay more because they believe they get more.

A $20,000 gown is not a premium product. It's not better made, it won't hold up longer, it's not waterproof or foldable. It's just artificially scarce. A custom-made suit, on the other hand, might be worth the money, especially if you're Wilt Chamberlain.

Plenty of brands are in trouble right now because they're not sure which one they represent.

It's Fall in the Midwest

Like it or not, it's Fall time in our state of Wisconsin. There is now the inevitable chill in the air, the days are shorter, and there is the tell tale smell of wood burning fireplaces around every corner.
For us Fall means the best looking clothes! This time of the year warrants wearing great sweaters and coats with new denim and great boots/shoes.

More great sweaters and jackets to come from Wings+Horns, Pencey, Seneca Rising, APC, Gitman Bros. Vintage, Alexander Wang etc...

Keep In Touch!!

Cool!

HTC today finally confirmed details of its much-rumored, heavily leaked new Android phone, the Hero, and the highlights are plentiful: a new Android interface, called Sense, which features Flash capability (a first), a fingerprint-free 3.2-inch screen and Teflon body coating, a 5 MP camera, A-GPS, a compass, and a gravity sensor. The Hero's sleek ergo design (complete with curved "chin" at the bottom), combined with the interface, is built on a less-is-more philosophy—less a sea of apps, more specific (and personalized) tools and information at your disposal. Of course, you knew this one was coming: The bad news is that it's Europe-only as of now (or really, as of next month); it hits our shores this fall.

2 1/2 year old Crates!

Ronny, a friend of ours here at Detour, stopped in the other day to show us his Crate James Jeans he had purchased from us years ago out of one of Crates first ever batches.

These are Ronny's daily jeans so they've seen a lot, including a motorcycle trip across Africa! How cool is that!

So, check out the amazing evolution of what once was a raw dry denim jean.
